Keele University

Keele University is a public research university located in Staffordshire, England, United Kingdom. Initially founded in 1949 as the University College of North Staffordshire, it received its Royal Charter in 1962 to become a fully chartered university. The university’s campus is set in a rural environment between the village of Keele and the town of Newcastle-under-Lyme. It encompasses academic, residential, and research facilities, along with gardens, lakes, and conference centers. Keele offers a broad range of academic programs in arts, science, health, medicine, pharmacy, engineering, social sciences, and related disciplines. It is particularly noted for its interdisciplinary approach—requiring students to engage in subjects across arts, science, and social science domains, often via a foundation year option. The university is active in international collaboration, research partnerships, and academic exchanges. As of 1 September 2025, Professor Kevin Shakesheff serves as the Vice-Chancellor, providing academic and administrative leadership.
